UK – EU Trade Deal

As you may have heard, the UK and EU have agreed a trade deal which will define the relationship between the two territories following the end of the Implementation Period on 31st December.

The CE Marking Association will be digesting the details of this trade deal and in particular the impact that it will have on your product compliance obligations.

We will in due course be advising our members of any changes to CE and UKCA marking requirements that this will bring about.

In the meantime, we would like to wish all of our members and clients a very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

If you require any support with your CE or UKCA marking obligations, please don’t hesitate to contact us on info@cemarkingassociation.co.uk

Brexit & UKCA Mark Workshop

The CE Marking Association will be holding a half-day workshop on the 15th December in order to support our clients with the introduction of the new UKCA mark on January 1st.

At 23:00 on the 31st December this year, the Brexit ‘Implementation’ period will end and the UKCA mark will be required for some goods placed on the UK market. Although the CE Mark will still be accepted for a short period, we have designed this workshop to help Manufacturers transition to the new UK regulatory framework. Key topics will include how EU legislation will become UK legislation and the role that UK Approved Bodies will play in the new framework.

CE Marking Association Annual Seminar

CE Marking Association Annual Seminar 2020

The CE Marking Association’s Annual Seminar was held last week (5th November). It was a little different this year as the current pandemic led to the event being held virtually. Despite this, we heard informative presentations from BEIS, Peninsular Services, the Manufacturing Technology Centre and Economic Growth Solutions as well as some in-house speakers.

We would like to thank all our delegates for embracing the temporary remote format and hope that you found the day informative and productive. Next year’s seminar will be on Wednesday 3rd November 2021 when we sincerely hope that we can welcome everybody back to Wootton Park. Copies of the presentations are now available from within the Members’ area of our website.

If you would like to discuss any of the topics raised, then please call us on 01564 792349

Latest addition to the Wemtech family

The CE Marking Association is delighted to introduce the newest member of the Wemtech family in preparation for the introduction of UKCA Marking legislation in January!

Our ‘UKCA’ character will join its elder sibling ‘CE’ and become the face of our services aimed to help our members and clients through the new UK product conformity legislation following the implementation of Brexit next year. Don’t worry though, our CE Marking Association identity isn’t going anywhere!

Although delivering unique UKCA services under a different identity, Wemtech Ltd. will still continue to operate under a single membership meaning that current members of the CE Marking Association will continue to be supported through both their CE Marking and UKCA Marking journeys under their current membership. New members will enjoy both services under one subscription.

We look forward to telling you more about our UKCA Marking services in the very near future.

If you require help or advice with CE Marking or with the new UKCA mark, please don’t hesitate to call us on 01564 792349

Brexit Update – September 2020

On the 1st September, the UK Government issued amended guidance around the use of the CE Mark and the new UKCA mark.

A link to the guidance can be found here. The guidance advises that the CE Mark will be accepted as a conformity mark for most products placed on the UK market until 1st January 2022. Therefore during 2021, both CE and UKCA marks will be acceptable in the UK. This is a significant change from the advice previously offered.

Those products for which the CE Mark will not be acceptable during this period are those which have undergone assessment by a UK Approved Body after 1st January 2021 for which only the UKCA mark can be applied. These products will have to undergo additional assessment by an EU Notified Body if they are to be placed on the EU market after that date.

The above guidance remains the case while UK and EU legislation is in alignment and although there are no plans for UK legislation to diverge during this period, we will monitor the situation and publish updates if this changes.
