The CE Marking Association at the Southern Manufacturing Show

Over 100 people attended the two CE Marking Seminars given at the Southern Manufacturing Show earlier this month which looked at the CE Marking process in general as well as exploring recent or imminent changes to legislation and of course, Brexit!.

Members of our Technical Team were on hand to help and advise both before and after the seminars. If you are interested in ongoing support for your CE Marking requirements, we offer membership of the CE Marking Association, details of which can be found here.

We look forward to welcoming you at similar events in the future, please keep an eye on our website for details of future seminars.

BREXIT UPDATE – DECEMBER 2019

As you are now by no doubt aware, the UK has voted and the results of the General Election are now in. The united Kingdom has returned a majority Conservative Government under Prime Minister Boris Johnson. We look at how this development affects your CE Marking obligations.

Prior to the General Election, the Act of Parliament invoking the European Union Withdrawal Agreement (See our previous article) was paused as the political parties prepared for the general Election.

The majority Government now has sufficient support to enable the bill to pass through parliament unhindered, and it is therefore highly likely that the UK will leave the European Union and enter the implementation period on 31st January 2020.

During the implementation period, CE Marking obligations will be unaffected as the UK will continue to have effect under UK law; we would therefore advise that Manufacturers continue to CE Mark their products as before.

Product Compliance legislation in the UK following the implementation period is subject to any trade deal negotiated with the default position being as we described in our October update.

The CE Marking Association will continue to follow the Brexit process and consider its effects on CE Marking for UK Manufacturers; we will publish updates as they become available however if you wish to discuss any topics related to CE Marking, then please get in contact.

Amended Guidance to the Machinery Directive

The second edition of the Guide to Application of the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC) originally published by the European Commission in June 2010 was amended at the end of October to become edition 2.2. The guide provides useful insight into fulfilling CE Marking obligations for equipment under the scope of the Directive.

This update to the  Guide, contains a number of clarifications and corrections to the concepts of “safety components” and “partly completed machinery”, and some edits to ensure coherence with the LVD Guide. There are two newly added paragraphs about the machinery control units (§417) and safety components which are considered to be logic units (§418).

A copy of the Guide is available on the European Commission website here: https://ec.europa.eu/docsroom/documents/38022
